Hippodrome Lamp / Social Enterprise
We have worked with local people through a series of workshops to produce this highly desirable, contemporary, steam bent wooden lampshade inspired by1930’s Art Deco style.
The lampshade designed by Tim Denton and is based on the Hippodrome light which was rescued and restored by the Wrexham History group.

2015 – 2016
Round 1.
Bold and colourful unique screen printed Homeware products including lampshades, cushions, trinket bowls, tote bags and love spoons were created and sold through the OW retail gallery in Chester Street.
The workshops were led by local Artist Rhi Moxon in collaboration with Artist Sara Jane Harper and participants from Advance Brighter Futures.

Round 2.
Participants from ABF working along side Rhi Moxon produced designs on linen by hand pulled screen printing. Motifs were based on architectural features found at St Giles Church, Wrexham. The fabric was fashioned into lampshades and cushions and sold through ow at Tŷ Pawb.
Tŷ Pawb is a vehicle for programme delivery and community led design projects. Alongside local and national artists and makers we stock and support socially engaged makers like Jolt, Granby Workshop, and Arthouse Unlimited whose products are made with social inclusion at their heart.

Round 3.
We commissioned Tim Denton to design a working prototype for a wooden lampshade to be manufactured by a group. www.timdenton.info

Champions’ House is a creative, active and supportive environment for people who have suffered from drug and alcohol addiction but are now actively seeking recovery.
The initial 14 week project started in August 2018 during which time John Davies and Graham Lloyd of the Wrexham Historical Society –provided background information about the rescuing of the original 1930’s lamp and its heritage value to our community. The lampshade design takes its inspiration from the Hippodrome light fitting, which is now installed in Tŷ Pawb’s South Arcade.
Over 20 lamps have been made and sold through Siop//Shop and at our pop up presence at The Good Life Experience – Hawarden 2019
Round 4.
Meeting on Thursday mornings, participants from the KIM4Him Mens Group learnt the history of the lamp and the background of the design by Tim Denton.
Subsequent sessions would have encouraged each member to create their own lampshade and create more stock to sell but the programme was unfortunately interrupted by the COVID 19 pandemic. It is hoped that the remaining sessions will recommence once the Galleries reopen.
