DESCRIPTION:1876 Year of Wonder – Creative Writing: Love Letters to Here \nPick up your pen and explore Wrexham through the eyes of a writer. \nInspired by the Wrexham Writers anthology and the rich tradition of travel writing in the area\, this session invites families to celebrate the places\, people and moments that make Wrexham special. Together\, we’ll build a shared anthology of stories\, celebrating Wrexham through many different voices. \nEveryone will create their own mini-zine to take home\, filled with words\, ideas and stories from the session in a small collection of big feelings for the place we call home. \nWhat to bring: \nYou can expect a guided creative writing session\, with gentle prompts and inspiration. Please bring whatever you feel comfortable writing with (pen\, notebook\, phone\, laptop etc.) and a drink. There will be a short comfort break in the middle and you are welcome to take a break anytime you need during the session. \nLanguage: \nThe sessions will predominantly be held in English\, using everyday Welsh but participants are welcome to write and take part in any language they are comfortable using. \nAccess: \nThis workshop is located on the groundfloor. DESCRIPTION:Composing Belonging returns to Wrexfest this August following a hugely successful debut earlier this year \nOriginally created as a one-night-only performance\, the project returns after its first sharing received such a positive response from audiences that the artists wanted to continue the collaboration and develop the work further. \nThis year’s performance brings together SERA\, Ayoub Boukhalfa\, Yasmine Latkowski and the full Panedeni ensemble for an afternoon of original music\, collaboration and conversation. \nAt the heart of the project is a shared exploration of identity\, language\, heritage and belonging. Drawing on Welsh and Arabic musical traditions\, the artists combine original songwriting with diverse musical influences to create new work rooted in their own lived experiences. \nJoining the project this year is Panedeni\, whose debut EP Atamanaa was released earlier this summer. Led by Yasmine Latkowski\, the North Wales-based ensemble blends Arabic and Welsh musical traditions through original compositions and reimagined folk styles\, featuring oud\, Welsh border pipes\, violin\, guitar\, clarinet\, flutes\, Egyptian percussion\, bass and vocals performed across four languages. \nAlongside music from Panedeni’s new EP\, audiences will hear original collaborative works developed through the Composing Belonging project\, individual performances from the featured artists\, and hear the stories behind the music. \nMore than a concert\, Composing Belonging offers an opportunity to experience how music can bring together different traditions\, languages and perspectives through collaboration.\nEveryone is welcome. \nTŷ Pawb\, Wrexham | Saturday 15th August |\n3pm (doors 2.30pm). \nFeatured Artists\nSERA\nA bilingual singer-songwriter from Caernarfon\, SERA writes contemporary folk songs inspired by landscape\, language and place. Performing in Welsh and English\, she has received BBC Radio support and recently collaborated with Eve Goodman on the project Natur. \nAyoub Boukhalfa\nOriginally from Morocco and now based in Wales\, Ayoub is a singer\, performer and choir leader rooted in Moroccan Chaabi music. His work explores identity\, belonging and community through performance and collaboration. \nYasmine Latkowski & Panedeni\nYasmine is a vocalist\, composer and the creative force behind Panedeni\, a North Wales ensemble blending Arabic and Welsh musical traditions. DESCRIPTION:IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Due to unforeseen circumstances Rufus Edwards is sadly no longer able to perform. \nStanding in for this week is renowned local pianist Chris Simms. \nChris started playing the piano at the age of 6 studying Classical piano with Paul Johns for 10 years in Corwen\, culminating in an appearance at the Chester Music Festival performing the 1st movement of Beethoven’s Pathétique Sonata. \nHe began experimenting with his own music at the age of 13 and began composing when he should have been learning his grades! \nThese early compositions still comprise a large part of his repertoire\, covering many genres and styles of music. DESCRIPTION:The Nova Saxophone Quartet is an emerging\, vibrant quartet formed in Manchester in September 2023 from students and graduates of RNCM and the University of Manchester.  \nTheir debut performance was at the student-led festival AliveFest Reborn! where they leaped into the contemporary performance scene with dynamic and explosive works by Gordon Goodwin and Chris Evan Hass. \nThey have since performed at renowned venues in Manchester’s Classical music scene including the Anthony Burger Centre\, as well as Wakefield Cathedral and further afield. With a focus on contemporary repertoire\, the quartet tackles challenging works that explore the range of the saxophone’s dynamism and breathtaking emotion. They enjoy collaborating with student composers and have commissioned works including Rob Hughs’ Supernova\, which they premiered in 2023\, with a studio recording soon to be released! \nThe members of the quartet are also individually renowned in Manchester’s emerging professional scene\, as conductors\, musical directors\, soloists and competition winning composers.

DESCRIPTION:Leeds-based pianist and composer Simeon Walker has built a reputation as one of the UK’s most compelling voices in contemporary piano music\, with his work regularly broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM and streamed over 50 million times worldwide. \nA prolific live performer\, Walker tours extensively across the UK and Europe\, sharing stages with artists including Neil Cowley\, Submotion Orchestra\, Erland Cooper and LYR\, and appearing at Latitude Festival\, the Edinburgh Fringe\, Manchester Jazz Festival and SXSW London. His composition ‘Reverie’ featured on the first official Piano Day compilation (2022) alongside Nils Frahm\, Ólafur Arnalds and Chilly Gonzales. \nBeyond his own work\, Simeon is an accomplished composer\, performer\, arranger and session musician\, collaborating across musical genres and interdisciplinary art\, dance and theatre projects. He sits on the Musicians’ Union Live Advisory Board and the Featured Artists Coalition Artist Council\, and in 2018 he founded Brudenell Piano Sessions\, a live music series celebrating original piano-centred music\, which he continues to curate. \nDrawing on a classical foundation and a deep appreciation for jazz\, ambient and experimental forms\, Simeon’s performances move between hushed introspection and expansive grandeur.
