An Arts Council Collection touring exhibition featuring works on, from or about paper by Roy Lichetenstein, Cornelia Parker, Ceri Richards, Bridget Riley and many more.
On Paper showcased the work of acclaimed 20th-century and contemporary artists who work with paper. Looking beyond the mark-making of drawing to consider the material itself, the exhibition explored how artists have used paper as the focus of their work in creative and unusual ways.
The artists represented in On Paper use paper not only as a medium but also as the very matter of their art: it is the subject and the object, the means of production and the artefact produced. Demonstrating a range of approaches to collage, drawing and sculpture, On Paper showcased the work of over 40 artists including Welsh artists Tim Davies, Ceri Richards and James Richards, among many others.
The full list of artists included in On Paper: Roger Ackling; Art & Language; Gillian Ayres; Anna Barriball; Karla Black; Derek Boshier; Ian Breakwell; Tony Carter; Prunella Clough; Jason Coburn; Tim Davies; Kate Davis; Francis Davison; Lesley Foxcroft; General Idea; Brian Griffiths; John Hilliard; Damien Hirst; Gary Hume; Gwyther Irwin; Gareth Jones; Ilya Kabakov; Tania Kovats; Jim Lambie; Langlands & Bell; Roy Lichtenstein; Linder; Richard Long; Kenneth Martin; Margaret Mellis; Henry Mundy; Paul Noble; Eduardo Paolozzi; Cornelia Parker; Roland Penrose; Simon Periton; Ceri Richards; James Richards; Bridget Riley; Jack Smith; Richard Smith; Sarah Staton; John Stezaker; Tony Swain; Harry Thubron and Wolfgang Tillmans and Eleanor Wood.
