How do artists find their voice in times of crisis?

Join Wrexham-based new writing theatre company Dirty Protest Theatre for an evening of live performance, bringing together invited artists and friends of the company, voices and stories across cultures, exploring themes of migration, belonging, and survival in times of crisis.
The evening includes a curated programme of invited artists and friends of the company, culminating in a solo presentation of “Bridges of Voices” by Mariia Samoilenko.
The programme includes music, storytelling and performances in Ukrainian, Welsh, Danish and English, creating a shared space for cultural exchange.
The evening culminates in “Bridges of Voices”, a solo performance by Ukrainian actor and author Mariia Samoilenko, developed as part of her independently led R&D project supported by the Nordic Culture Fund (NEMO) and partner arts councils.
The presentation takes the form of a script-in-hand development performance, followed by a discussion on the role of the artist’s voice in times of crisis.
Mariia Samoilenko is a Ukrainian theatre and film actor and creator originally from Kyiv, currently based in Denmark, where she has continued her artistic practice since 2022. Since the beginning of the full-scale war, her work has included theatre projects in Denmark, Sweden, and Germany, as well as concert performances across different regions of Denmark.
Working across cultures, her practice combines original text, music, and embodied storytelling.
“Bridges of Voices” is a musical-poetic solo performance that reflects on the formation and transformation of an artist’s voice in today’s world. Moving between personal and collective memory, the work asks: who is the artist today, what drives them to take the stage, and how can one find and reclaim their voice in a reality shaped by war and uncertainty.
Through voice, body, and presence, the monologue listens to reality and transforms it into form. Songs and original text create a unique space where inherited voices, personal experience, and contemporary events intertwine—inviting the audience to empathize and pose their own questions.

Запрошуємо доєднатися до театральної компанії сучасної драматургії Dirty Protest Theatre (м. Рексем) на вечір живих виступів, що об’єднує запрошених митців і друзів компанії, голоси та історії різних культур у дослідженні тем міграції, приналежності та виживання в часи кризи.
У програмі представлені музика, оповіді та виступи українською, валлійською, данською та англійською мовами, що створюють спільний простір культурного обміну.
Вечір завершується “Bridges of Voices” — сольним перформансом української акторки та авторки Марії Самойленко, створеним у межах її незалежно реалізованого R&D-проєкту за підтримки Nordic Culture Fund (NEMO) та партнерських мистецьких рад.
Показ відбувається у формі девелопмент-перформансу зі сценарієм “з аркуша”, після якого відбудеться обговорення на тему ролі голосу митця в часи кризи.
Марія Самойленко — українська театральна та кіноакторка й мисткиня, родом із Києва, яка наразі базується в Данії, де продовжує свою мистецьку діяльність з 2022 року. Від початку повномасштабної війни її робота включає театральні проєкти в Данії, Швеції та Німеччині, а також концертні виступи в різних регіонах Данії.
Працюючи на перетині культур, її практика поєднує авторський текст, музику та тілесне оповідання.
“Bridges of Voices” — музично-поетичний сольний перформанс, що осмислює формування та трансформацію голосу митця в сучасному світі. Переміщуючись між особистою та колективною пам’яттю, робота ставить питання: ким є митець сьогодні, що спонукає його виходити на сцену і як можна знайти та повернути свій голос у реальності, сформованій війною та невизначеністю.
Через голос, тіло та присутність монолог слухає реальність і перетворює її на форму. Пісні та авторський текст створюють унікальний простір, у якому переплітаються успадковані голоси, особистий досвід і сучасні події — запрошуючи глядача до емпатії та власних роздумів.
