Meet our print studios….
Aberystwyth Printmakers was established in 2004 by a group of artists who employ a range of printing techniques in their work.
The principle aim of the group, which currently has about 50 members, is the promotion of printmaking through talks, demonstrations and exhibitions of their work and through the provision of printmaking workshop facilities.
Our print workshop at Penrhyngoch, Aberystwyth, has good facilities for etching, relief printing and lithography. The workshop provides supervised and open workshop sessions for all registered members. The group also runs introductory workshops and classes on most printmaking techniques led by internationally known printmakers.
The group has exhibited widely throughout Wales, England and Scotland and further afield in the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and China.
Recent exhibitions include a collaboration with scientists at IBERS, Aberystwyth University ‘The Miscanthus Project’, Aberystwyth Printmakers in the City’ at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists and a Bestiary Book in collaboration with the Print Council of New Zealand.
The group will be holding their 20th Anniversary Exhibition at the Mid Wales Art Centre in Spring 2024.
Belfast Print Studio (BPW)
Belfast Print Workshop is a city-centre print studio located in the heart of Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter.
Established in 1977, we have been welcoming artists interested in the practice and promotion of printmaking for over 45 years.
Our spacious workshop is situated on the top floor of the Cotton Court building, a historic former spun cotton warehouse, and is equipped with a range of traditional and contemporary printmaking equipment. We are committed to providing a low-toxic environment for our artists and offer a variety of courses for all ability levels. Our workshop is also fully accessible to those with disabilities, including wheelchair users.
In 2020, we opened a new in-house gallery space where members and visiting artists can exhibit their work. We offer a year-round program of exhibitions and events, both in our in-house gallery and in galleries and arts venues throughout the island. Our program showcases a diverse range of contemporary and traditional printmaking techniques and supports emerging and established artists alike.
Glasgow Print Studio
Glasgow Print Studio (GPS) was founded in 1972 as an artist-led initiative providing accessible workshop facilities and later a gallery space for artists making original prints. Now, as an internationally acclaimed centre of excellence in fine art printmaking, GPS promotes contemporary and innovative printmaking and supports the development and expression of artists’ practices. Its state-of-the-art workshop lies at the centre of its activities, which encompass publishing and exhibition programmes, learning events, printmaking courses, print sales and an archive.
Kip Gresham Editions (The Print Studio, Cambridge)
The Print Studio, Cambridge, is an internationally renowned collaborative printmaking studio.
It is also a publisher of artists’ limited edition original prints. Master Printmaker Kip Gresham has printed with numerous British and international artists over the past 40 years. The range of prints he has made is diverse and the current inventory, including a number of rare prints, offers a unique opportunity to start or build upon a print collection.
Gresham and his team collaborate with each artist focusing upon exploration, experimentation and innovation. They use combinations of media, sometimes with hand-applied elements, and only the highest quality archival papers and inks are employed. There is no house style but rather a consistent focus on the making of collaborative work of the highest quality.
We regularly publish and release new limited edition prints. Please visit our Artist pages to browse a selection of available works.
Printing in Swiss
This exhibition surveys recent work by artists, illustrators and designers working in Switzerland, including 30 works created in Basel, Bern, Kriens, Lausanne and Zurich.
As a country where diverse traditions and cultures meet and interact. Switzerland has always been a melting-pot in the heart of Europe. This is why the visual arts in cosmopolitan Switzerland display such enormous variety. There is no such thing as ‘typically Swiss art’. There is a clear and repeated focus on the Alps as a living environment. The tendency to be modest is also a recurrent theme.
By and large, printmaking in Switzerland is just as diverse as the country itself. Few countries of this size can boast an arts scene that has attracted international attention, admiration and imitation over such a long period.
Ed Catley, Viola Chiang, Adem Dermarku, Helen Eggenschwiler, Lawrence Grimm, Tami Komai, Simon Kroug, LINE FOUR, Valentin Magaro, Stella Pfeiffer, Eva Rust, Franziska Schiratzki, Lucinda Tanner, Phillip Thoni and Nando von Arb have exhibited across Switzerland and internationally. Their prize-winning work is held in permanent collections worldwide.
