New Eyes on Ancient Landscapes: an exhibition of photographs by Mohamed Hassan alongside works co-created with members of the Comunidade de Lingua Portuguesa from Wrexham (CLPW) group, Bom Dia Cymru.
This exhibition presents the landscapes of Wales captured through the lenses of both established and emerging photographers.
At its heart lies the work of Mohamed Hassan, a Swansea-based photographer born in Egypt. Hassan’s captivating landscape photographs of Wales offer a fresh perspective on this ancient land, highlighting its hidden beauty and timeless grandeur.
Alongside Hassan’s work, the exhibition showcases a selection of his photographs depicting the landscapes of his native Egypt. These contrasting images invite viewers to compare and contrast the visual narratives of two countries steeped in history and tradition.
The exhibition also features a captivating collection of photographs taken by members of the Bom Dia Cymru group that meets weekly in Ty Pawb’s Useful Art Space. The group is part of Comunidade de Lingua Portuguesa from Wrexham (CLPW). Under Hassan’s guidance, these enthusiastic photographers ventured into the North Wales landscape, armed with their cameras and a newfound appreciation for their adopted home.
The resulting images offer a unique perspective on familiar scenes, capturing the wonder and beauty of the Welsh landscape through fresh eyes. This collaborative element adds another layer to the exhibition’s exploration of “new eyes on ancient landscapes,” demonstrating how photography can bridge cultural divides and foster friendships, dialogue and a sense of home.
Bom Dia Cymru and Clyde Holmes Uplandscapes are on show in the gallery until 22nd June.
Gallery opening hours Mon-Sat, 10am-4pm.
