“Helo Rachel ydw i. Rwy'n fardd tecstilau. Rwy'n creu mynegiadau gweledol o'm barddoniaeth.

Daw ysbrydoliaeth o’r môr, byd natur, cyd-ddibyniaeth o fewn y byd, chwedlau tylwyth teg/gwerin chwedlau a bywyd teuluol. Rwy'n defnyddio'r fflotsam a'r jetsam wedi'u golchi i fyny ar y traethau neu wedi'u colli a dod o hyd i eitemau gan gynnwys tecstilau i greu cyfrwng cymysg mewn cwiltiau a chelf rhaff.

Mae'r tro hwn yn y Lle Gwneuthurwr yn gyfle gwych ar sawl lefel.

Mae gen i le i greu!! Rwy'n golygu gofod go iawn!!"

Meet our new Maker Space artist, @racheltextilepoet

“Hi I am Rachel. I am a textile poet. I create visual expressions of my poetry.

Inspiration comes from the sea, nature, interdependence within the world, fairy/folk tales myths legends and family life. I use the flotsam and jetsam washed up on the beaches or lost and found items including textiles to create mixed media at quilts and rope art.

For the past 3 years I have been fascinated by European Eels which are a critically endangered incredible species. At the beginning of lockdown i heard a podcast by Steve Martin about the Prince Lindworm danish fairytale and the hook for me was the 12 dresses created by the poor bride to be, which resonated with the 12 weeks(then!) of shielding so I spent those first 12 weeks making dresses and clothes out of ghost net.The fairytale has lots in it including rewilding the soul and more and In my retelling the Prince just wanted to be an Eel and his bride a fisher girl. I have since then produced a children’s book Eirian the Eel using my artwork and my poetry based on the lifecycle of the eel.

I work mainly with found and recycled materials. Myths legends and fairytales are all intertwined in the work that I do.

This time at the Maker Space is such a wonderful opportunity on many levels.

Am y 3 blynedd diwethaf rwyf wedi cael fy swyno gan Lyswennod Ewropeaidd sy'n rhywogaeth anhygoel sydd mewn perygl difrifol. Ar ddechrau’r cloi clywais bodlediad gan Steve Martin am stori dylwyth teg Dannaidd Prince Lindworm a’r bachyn i mi oedd y 12 ffrog a grëwyd gan y briodferch druan i fod, a oedd yn atseinio gyda’r 12 wythnos (bryd hynny!) o warchod felly treuliais i. y 12 wythnos gyntaf hynny yn gwneud ffrogiau a dillad allan o rwyd ysbrydion. Ers hynny rwyf wedi cynhyrchu llyfr plant Eirian The Eel, gan ddefnyddio fy ngwaith celf a fy marddoniaeth yn seiliedig ar gylch bywyd y llysywen.

Rwy'n gweithio'n bennaf gyda deunyddiau wedi'u darganfod ac wedi'u hailgylchu. Mae mythau, chwedlau a straeon tylwyth teg i gyd yn cydblethu yn y gwaith yr wyf yn ei wneud.

Mae'r tro hwn yn y Lle Gwneuthurwr yn gyfle gwych ar sawl lefel.

Mae gen i le i greu!! Rwy'n golygu gofod go iawn!!"

Rachel Holian yw ein gwneuthurwr cyntaf eleni, gydai’i gosodiadau o lestri a stampiau porslen bach wedi’i taflu ar olwynion crochenwaith ac yn archwilio themâu sy’n ymwneud â theulu, perthnasoedd a chysylltiadau emosiynol.

The Maker in Focus Showcase aims to support makers, artists and crafts people from all disciples and backgrounds by providing them with a platform for their work in our Maker Cabinets.

Rachel Holian is our first maker in focus this year, with her installations of wheel thrown miniature porcelain vessels and stamps exploring themes surrounding family, relationships and emotional ties.

Rachel’s installations are treasured items intended to invoke memories and are able to view and purchase from the Maker Cabinets opposite Tŷ Pawb’s reception desk until the 30th June.
